Find News Literacy Project in Open Space

Resources from the News Literacy Project have been added to Open Space. These 46 new instructional materials focus on information and media literacy and feature 19 lesson plans and 27 other infographics, posters, guides, and quizzes.

Educators can find instructional materials for essential topics such as:

  • Arguments and evidence
  • Conspiratorial thinking
  • Evaluating claims
  • Misinformation
  • Understanding bias
  • Fact checking

The student-facing portion of the Understanding Bias lesson plan includes an interactive slideshow with videos, survey questions, and helpful media. A free teacher account is necessary to access some of the resources and to use the teacher dashboard.

Open Space is a curation and collaboration tool from INFOhio that empowers educators to build community through groups, access curated collections, search for freely accessible instructional materials, and curate and share resources that promote innovative and collaborative learning. Matt Yauk is a Senior Instructional Specialist with INFOhio. He is a certified educator who has worked as a Business and Technology teacher in the middle and high school settings and as an educational technologist, instructional designer, and academic technology director for The Ohio State University (OSU). He has a B.S. in Education: Technical Education and Training from OSU, a M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction: Instructional Design and Technology from University of Cincinnati, founded the Learner Engagement Division within the Association for Educational Communications and Technology (AECT), and co-authored a chapter in the Handbook of Distance Education (4th edition) called "Trends and Directions in Continuing Professional Development." The positive impact on student learning and educator development has always been his primary focus.
