Learning Objectives

Use the following objectives to check your learning as you proceed through the class:

  • Understand the importance of using digital text and other media to support the inquiry process. 
  • Find World Book Student and World Book Advanced on the INFOhio website: www.infohio.org.
  • Teach students how to locate information within World Book Student and World Book Advanced.
  • Use the navigational tools to search and browse to find the best content for students and instruction. 
  • Locate instructional supports within the resource. 
  • Learn how to use features within World Book Student and World Book Advanced to differentiate instruction. 
  • Consider methods for sharing World Book Student with parents and guardians. 
  • Create a lesson plan to integrate World Book Student or World Book Advanced into classroom instruction.
  • Reflect on your learning by sharing information with others. 

 

 

In this class, you will work through several lessons to learn how to access, navigate, and integrate World Book Student and Advanced into classroom learning. Below is a description of each lesson and an estimate of the amount of time it may take to complete each one.

Getting Started
  • Pretest: Take a quiz to find out what you know or need to know about World Book Student and World Book Advanced. 5 minutes
  • Welcome to the World Book Student & Advanced Class: Review the class objectives and the class overview. 5 minutes
  • Using Open Space Groups: Join the World Book Resources group in Open Space. In this group, discuss and reflect on the integration of this resource into the classroom with like-minded educators. 5 minutes
How to Use World Book Student and World Book Advanced
  • Getting to Know World Book Student and World Book Advanced: Read facts about the resource, practice the steps needed to access the resource on www.infohio.org, and watch short video tutorials to understand some of the features of the resource. Think about what you learned by answering questions. 10 minutes
  • Using World Book Student: Navigate World Book Student to locate resources for student use. 10 minutes
  • Using World Book Advanced: Navigate World Book Advanced to locate resources for student use. 10 minutes
  • Using the World Book Student and World Book Advanced Educator Tools: Locate instructional supports within the resource. 10 minutes
  • What Have You Learned So Far? Take a short quiz to check what you know. 5 minutes
  • Applying What You Have Learned: Complete an activity to practice using World Book Student or World Book Advanced. 10 minutes
Integrating World Book Student and World Book Advanced into Classroom Instruction
  • Teaching Students to Locate Information with World Book Student and World Book Advanced: Support the inquiry process in the classroom and teach students how to locate information with World Book Student and World Book Advanced. Learn how to use features to differentiate instruction. 10 minutes
  • Sharing World Book Student and World Book Advanced with Parents and Colleagues: Consider methods for sharing World Book Student with parents and guardians. Explore resources to share World Book Student and World Book Advanced with colleagues. 5 minutes
  • Creating Lessons Using World Book Student and World Book Advanced: Review lessons plans located using the Educator Tools within World Book Student and World Book Advanced. Create your lesson plan using a lesson plan template and resources from World Book Student or World Book Advanced. 25 minutes. 
Checking Your Learning  
  • Self-Assessments: Answer the questions to reflect on what you learned. 10 minutes
  • Contact Hours Quiz and Certificate: Take a quiz to earn a certificate for 2 contact hours. 5 minutes
