Applying What You Have Learned

Learning Objectives
  • Find Points of View Reference Center on the INFOhio website: www.infohio.org.
  • Locate instructional resources to support classroom instruction.
  • Learn how to use features within Points of View Reference Center to support student learning.

Exploring a Topic

Now that you have learned about how to access Points of View Reference Center, search by keyword and browse by category to locate digital content to use in your classroom. Practice your new navigation skills by completing the following exercise.

  1. Think about an upcoming unit you plan to teach. Think about the topic (or topics) related to this unit.
  2. Go to www.infohio.org and find Points of View Reference Center on the site using what you have learned.
  3. Begin by browsing by category. Select a category that best matches the topic of the unit or the standards you plan to teach. Consider the following examples.
    • If you are teaching a unit on the adoption of the U.S. Constitution, start with the category Civics and Government. Expand the category and explore the topics.
    • If you are teaching a unit on invasive species, start with the Animal Welfare category. Expand the category and explore the topics.
  4. Practice searching by keyword. Use keywords related to your topic or keywords from your Ohio Learning Standards (if applicable).
    • Try some of these keywords: COVID-19, invasive species, distance learning, bullying in schools, factory farming.
  5. Select an article(s) you would add to your instructional unit and share with students.
  6. Locate the permalink, copy the permalink and paste the permalink into a Google Doc, Google Keep, or Word Document.
  7. Next, use the Reference Shelf to locate a chart, graph, or research guide to support the instruction of this unit.

Reflecting on Your Learning
  1. Share an article and explain why it will support your curriculum and benefit your students. Answer this question in the INFOhio Resources for Research Open Space group. Navigate to the Discussions tab and find the Instructional Materials from Points of View Reference Center post. Reply to the thread and view other participants' responses.
