SchoolRooms
Project Update: December 4, 2006
INFOhio is pleased to announce the Phase One Deployment of SchoolRooms.
Developed by SirsiDynix in
collaboration with INFOhio, SchoolRooms is a new online portal for K-12 students,
educators, and parents. SchoolRooms encompasses the entire K-12 curriculum,
covering 75 major topic areas. Virtual rooms include Children and Young Adult
Literature, College & Careers, Fine Arts, Language Arts, Math, Science, Social
Studies, Study & Research, Technology and audience guides for Educators,
Librarians and Parents.
| SchoolRooms is a new kind of learning environment that brings
together the best content from the following sources into a single portal, using federated
search capability: |

|
School library catalogs |

|
Public library catalogs |

|
Standards-driven taxonomy with over 22,000 educator-selected Web sites |

|
INFOhios Core Collection of Electronic
Resources |

|
Interactive and integrated multimedia
content from well-known publishers such as Dorling Kindersley and Helicon |

|
Internet search results from Google |
|
SchoolRooms was built by teams of teachers and
librarians. More than 140 contributors (teachers, librarians, educational consultants
and usability experts) were brought together by SirsiDynix, INFOhio and Kent State
University School of Library and Information Science during a week-long workshop the
summer of 2006, where they participated in sessions and drew from their educational
expertise to create what is now SchoolRooms.
Two school districts, Kalida Local School District and Shaker Heights City School
District, have been selected as part of Phase One Deployment by INFOhio to test and use SchoolRooms
for the 2006-2007 school year as INFOhio works to deploy SchoolRooms for the
2007-2008 school year, first to those schools currently automated with INFOhio.
