2,000th Building Migrates to SirsiDynix

INFOhio's migration from MultiLIS library automation software to SirsiDynix WorkFlows® reached another milestone on June 12, 2006, with the migration of six buildings in the Harrison Hills City School District. INFOhio and its 23 regional Information Technology Centers (ITCs) have migrated 2,000 Ohio schools to SirsiDynix. Harrison Hills City Schools is located in Harrison County and is served by Ohio Mid-Eastern Regional Education Service Agency (OME-RESA) ITC. The district consists of four elementaries, a junior high and a high school.

Since 1994, INFOhio has been automating Ohio K-12 public and private schools with an integrated library automation system that includes circulation, cataloging, reports, inventory and online catalog (OPAC) modules. More than 2,400 buildings are currently automated with SirsiDynix or MultiLIS, an older package. The last MultiLIS building is scheduled for migration during the 2006-2007 school year. Many ITCs are using INFOhio and the SirsiDynix software to automate buildings with paper systems and buildings with standalone software. INFOhio Technical Support provides training, implementation assistance and ongoing support to the 23 ITCs, as well as software enhancements customized for Ohio schools.

Automated libraries are critical to providing quality resources to support Ohio's Academic Content Standards (ACS). OPAC records can align specific resources to ACS indicators and other Standards elements. Resources can include materials on building or district shelves or state-acquired resources, such as almost 200 digital titles licensed for K-12 by Ohio Area Media Centers. Classroom teachers and librarians can locate the right resources to meet students' instructional needs. Automation fosters resource sharing, as well, both within a district and through Ohio's Statewide Resource Sharing program, MORE; resource sharing allows for more efficient use of K-12 holdings.

For more information about INFOhio's library automation software, contact the ITC that provides services to your district or central@infohio.org. Also, visit the SirsiDynix Migration section of the INFOhio Web site.
